Safeguarding Code of Conduct

For Coaches, Volunteers & Personnel in PTYSF‑Funded Programs Effective Date: April, 2026 This Code of Conduct outlines the standards of behaviour expected from all coaches, volunteers, mentors, and personnel involved in programs supported by the Peace Through Youth Sport Foundation (“PTYSF”). Compliance with this Code is a mandatory condition of funding. 1. Core Responsibilities - All coaches and volunteers must: • Prioritise the safety, wellbeing, and dignity of every child • Act as positive role models • Maintain professional boundaries at all times • Follow all safeguarding procedures and reporting requirements • Treat all children fairly, respectfully, and without discrimination • Create an inclusive, supportive, and empowering environment 2. Prohibited Behaviours - The following behaviours are strictly forbidden: • Any form of physical, emotional, or sexual abuse • Bullying, harassment, intimidation, or discrimination • Being alone with a child in a private or isolated setting • Giving gifts, money, or special treatment that could be perceived as grooming • Sexualised comments, jokes, gestures, or communication • Private messaging with children on social media or personal devices • Taking or sharing photos/videos of children without proper consent • Using alcohol or drugs while supervising children • Transporting a child alone without prior approval and safeguards • Engaging in any behaviour that exploits, humiliates, or endangers a child 3. Safe Interaction Standards - Coaches and volunteers must: • Use positive, age‑appropriate language • Maintain appropriate physical contact (only when necessary and safe) • Ensure training environments are supervised and safe • Respect personal boundaries and cultural differences • Avoid favouritism or forming exclusive relationships with any child • Ensure two‑adult supervision wherever possible 4. Photography, Video & Media - You must: • Obtain informed consent from parents/guardians (and children where appropriate) • Use images that show children in a safe, respectful, and dignified manner • Never share images on personal accounts or devices • Follow PTYSF’s media and privacy guidelines 5. Online & Digital Conduct - You must: • Use only approved communication channels • Keep all communication professional and transparent • Never send private messages to children • Report any online risks, bullying, or inappropriate behaviour immediately 6. Reporting Responsibilities - You must report immediately if you: • Witness or suspect abuse • Observe concerning behaviour by another adult or child • Receive a disclosure from a child • Identify unsafe environments or practices Reports must be made to: • Your organisation’s safeguarding lead • PTYSF’s safeguarding contact: safety@peace- through-youth-sports-foundation.org • Local authorities or emergency services where required by law Failure to report is a breach of this Code. 7. Professional Boundaries - You must: • Maintain clear adult–child boundaries • Avoid personal relationships with children or their families • Not share personal contact details with children • Not accept friend requests or follow children on social media 8. Transport & Travel - When transporting children: • Follow your organisation’s transport policy • Never transport a child alone unless unavoidable and documented • Ensure vehicles and routes are safe • Obtain parental/guardian consent for all travel 9. Power, Trust & Influence - Coaches and volunteers must: • Recognise the inherent power imbalance in adult–child relationships • Never misuse authority for personal gain or influence • Encourage children’s autonomy, voice, and participation 10. Consequences of Breaching This Code - Breaches may result in: • Immediate removal from duties • Termination of involvement in PTYSF‑funded programs • Withdrawal of PTYSF funding from the organisation • Reporting to law enforcement or child‑protection authorities • Permanent ineligibility for future involvement 11. Acknowledgement - All coaches and volunteers must sign an acknowledgement confirming: • They have read and understood this Code • They agree to comply with all safeguarding requirements • They understand the consequences of non‑compliance
